Each Upper Moon in Demon Slayer is rated from weak to powerful.

Demon Slayer's Upper Moons weakened Kaigaku and created a superior layer that placed Kokushibo on Upper Moon 1.

The Upper Moons of Demon Slayer sit below Muzan, the strongest character in the anime, and their ranks create a clear hierarchy. Kaigaku stands as the weakling while Kokushibo holds Upper Moon.

The three Upper Moons were defeated before the Infinity Castle arc, but Muzan replaced only two of them for unknown reasons. These replacements are naturally weaker and further decrease the group's composite power. As a result, there is often a large gap between levels, allowing to maintain a clear level system.

Kaigaku's lack of experience made him vulnerable to Upper Moon.

Kaigaku hates Zenitsu out of fear, but gives up immediately when confronted by Upper Moon 1. His determination to survive transforms him into the demon he will become. Muzan becomes so fascinated that he can make Kaigoku a new Upper moon 6, and Thunder Breathing flows smoothly into his mythical Electrokinesis.

When he encounters Zenitsu in the movie Infinity Castle, Kaigaku ridicules his opponent and presumptuously prepares to cut him off. Unfortunately for him, he is never on equal footing: Zenitsu's mastery of various forms of Thunder Breathing did not determine the battle; his extreme focus on Thunderclap & Flash quickly ended the battle.

Nakime uses blood magic to control the battlefield.

While Nakime's physical strength will never win major battles, his Blood Demon Art can control the battlefield at a grassroots level. In fact, he is responsible for the entire Infinity Castle. Originally introduced as Muzan's silent biwa-playing subordinate, Hantengu's Upper Moon 4 was ordered by Muzan to take over and look into another realm.

Naomi is no longer able to fight the dragon and Love Hashira. Her military abilities are not worthy of that rank, and raise questions about her promotion. Naomi's oversized stature prevents her from being able to strike decisive blows at Snake and Love Hashimura. By simultaneously seeing every aspect of the arena, she separates and disrupts her enemies in order to inflict great damage on the demon slaying squad.

The evil combination of Gyutaro and Daki overwhelmed the warriors.

As the central villains of the entertainment district, Gutero and Darki's relationship can be described as demonic in nature. Their combined abilities dramatically raise their threat levels, while their shared status for survival prevents each from being decapitated. Both sisters need to be taken down at the same time, turning the battlefield into a tactical nightmare for the heroes.

Tengen Uzui, Nezuko, Tanjiro, Inosuke and Zenitsu need to coordinate their final attacks before defeating Upper Moon 6. While Tengen Ozui cuts off Gyutaro, Tanjirō Kamado strikes from above, preparing to slit his throat. Daki smiles at him and is consoled by Gyutaru; the brothers are beheaded.

Gyokko almost succeeded in killing Mist Hashira.

Although Gyokko's erratic smile matched his hideous features and potty-addiction, making him the interesting Upper Moon, his fifth position made his attack level considerably lower than Kizuki's tomato crop. Yet he was able to overpower Muichiro Tokito, who initially lacked the efficacy of Mist Breathing.

However, the need for an Awakened prodigy to turn the tide of battle is a testament to Gyokko's incredible power. More importantly, he is not instantaneous; Mist Hashira takes time and plans his attack before they are fully deployed.

Hantengu transformed his emotions into advanced fighters on the moon.

The Blood Wizard of the Upper Fourth Moon, more powerful than Goko, divides himself into creatures, each of which represents a separate emotion. Saekido, Karaku, Izaks and Urugi have individual upper moon ranks, and together they nearly destroy the combined forces of Tanjiro, Sunzuko, Jinsei, and Missouri Kangaroo.

The lightning strikes of Sekido, the destructive blasts of Karaku, Urogi's loud screams and Aizetsu's archery make for a fearsomely perfect fighting ability. This type allows Hantengu to outmaneuver multiple opponents at once, while his unique biophysiology complicates the battle: discovering, identifying, and decapitating Upper Moon 4's body is the task that seems necessary for Nezuko's death.

Akaza's fighting instinct made him unstoppable.

Unlike Hantengu, Akaza's attack style is highly personal. By combining unique physicality with Blood Demon Art designed to enhance his production, Akasa successfully defeats and kills Flame Hashira. Kyojuro Rengoku is a flaming powerhouse, but even his highest potential vanishes before the demonic powers of Upper Moon 3.

Eventually, Giyu Tomioka and Tanjiro Kamado risked their lives in battle to slowly weaken Akaza. The evil masterfully adapted this unstoppable combination, proving that the Demon Slayer represented the dividing line between the Upper Moons below and the true forces of nature.

Douma's defeat was deliberate and required a cold strategy.

Doma, one of the few Demon Slayer demons without a tragic past, emerged from a religion that treated him just like human beings. By the time Muzan turned him into Upper Moon, he was already filled with selfishness.#2Doma"Ha" reinforces her rainbow eyes and claws, and her perplexing ruthlessness is consistent with her cold-blooded demonic art Cryokinesis that produces ice, fog, and many other creations.

The icebergs of Upper Moon 2 are even able to replicate his technologies, making him more dangerous than all but one of Muzan's subjects. Hashira the germ has no right over Doma, but after eating her poisonous body becomes weak enough for Kanao Tsuyuri and Inosuke to end Upper moon 2 forever.

Kokushibo stands high for miles above every moon.

The best of the last Upper Moons to die, Demon Slayer's Kokushibo was once Michikatsu Tsugikuni. Despite reaching the peak of human power, his desperation to surpass his twin Yoriichi ensured Kokushibu's birth.

Kokushibo crosses the Infinity Castle arc, killing Muichiro and Genya while fatally wounding Gyomei Himejima. Ultimately, Sanemi Shinazugawa is the only survivor of a multi-Hashira battle that ends with the destruction of Upper Moon 1.
