In Demon Slayer, the deaths of Rengoku, Kanae, Shinobu and Jigoro as well as Hashira are shaped by Muzan's demons, sacrifice, poison and revenge.

In Demon Slayer, the Hashira are considered to be the most powerful users of their individual breathing modalities and are strong warriors at the front line ready to face Muzan and his Kizuki twelve head-on. Unfortunately, not all those who leave these epic battles make up a valuable part of the story, which is why they form an invaluable component of the storyline. For those working to eradicate muzan and its demons from the world, early death is not only guaranteed; there's no safety net for them no matter how good their skills may be.

Kyojuro Rengoku: Hashira's stop on the Mugen train in flames

Kyojuro Rengoku is one of the most memorable Demon Slayer characters, although it was only for a single series. His distinctive design, powerful techniques, simple yet relatable philosophy and signature catchphrase made him an instant fan favorite. The death of Flame Hashira occurs at the end of Mugen Train arc and breaks fans' hearts.

Kanae Kocho and Shinobu Kocho: The revenge before the story begins

Kanae Kocho, the only human death named outside of Tanjiro's family, is Shinobu's sister and predecessor. Softly spoken and good-natured, but in no way a pushover. Kanae is one of the second highest ranking members of the Upper Moon demons and has lost time at the hands of Doma, one of many powerful Demon Slayer characters.

In Infinity Castle Arc, the revenge is over. When the Demon Slayer Corps abandons the battle, they know that there's little chance of anyone surviving. The exorcists, especially Shinobu, are not enough to bother her; she finally has a chance to get back at Doma for killing her sister Kanae.

Jigoro Kawajima - Formerly Shame of Thunder Hashira

The Master is one of the most beloved characters in fiction, and has been one of most shonen heroes. As JUST had Urokudaki from Tangerine, so Jigoro Kuwajima was formerly Thunder Hashira at Zenitsu. The ex-warlord has two known disciples: Zenitsu and Kaigaku. & Kobayashi later revealed that she committed suicide after being shamed for losing a disciple to the demon. Her death is unknown from where in the timeline, but readers may assume it occurred shortly before Zentsu left to attend the final selection ceremony.

Muichiro Tokito: 14 year old Mist Hashira competes with Upper Moon One.

Despite being only 14 years old, Muichiro Tokito is an actionable character. His dark-based techniques are fast and engaging. Although he appears to be intended for supporting roles, he is one of the best villains in Demon Slayer Corps.

Encountering the demon, Muichiro joins forces with Genya, Sanemi and Gyomei to fight Kokushibo. It takes all four of them JUST to defeat this fearsome monster.

Mitsuri Kanroji and Obanai Iguro: Love and the Snake Hashira against Nakime

In fact, his love breathing is rooted in Flame Breathe and the late Kyojuro Rengoku once served as his teacher. Green-eyed, rope-bound slaughter during a fierce fight; Kimetsu's performance involves painting cheerfully while Tanjiro looks at Nezuko with affection.

In the Infinity Castle Arc, Missouri joins forces with O'Brien to defeat a demon and dies of his wounds.

Obanai Iguro is one of the least stable characters in Demon Slayer. Although he doesn't feel as severely affected by Hashira's death as others, his little time spent being noticed is used to show off his core strength and kindness. As Hashira, Obanai can acquire unique skills and abilities that take him far into battle, but she has been completely against them from the start.

Jomi Himejima: The final nail in the coffin of Hashirah

During the invasion, Gomi's strength was a major boon for the demon-fighting army and enough to defeat Muzan in the final part of the battle. In fact, Kalhasira first recognized Muzan's unique biology, allowing the allies to more accurately attack his god king. Although no lethal wound is shown at the end of the fight, it is known that Gomi suffered greatly throughout the difficulty.

Why are Hashira's deaths important?

These deaths are not only losses for the characters, but they also testify to a central cost of the story. Hashira is the mighty warrior who powers Muzan and his 12 Kizuki, raising the odds for another battle every spring. Kanae's death gives Shinobu an excuse to attack; Kuwajima's provides Zenitsu with a burden to carry; Rengoku's demise tells the audience that there is no safety in any name; and the Infinity Castle deaths demonstrate that even the most powerful members of the Demon Slayer Corps can be defeated by Upper Moon demons.
