Yen Press published Volume 1 of Elden Ring : Distant Tales Between, a Hollywood manga by Haruichi that explores moments in the lives of Roderika, Brother Corhyn, Rya and Blackguard Big Boggart. The publisher had previously released only one series in English, and this first volume expanded on the short story technique and toned down its game-related depth.
Distribution and form
Elden Ring : The Road to the Erdtree is an upcoming Hollywood series made by Yen Press, which follows a Tarnished named Aseo and Distant Tales Between in which each episode is devoted to one non-main character. The result is more like a collection of short stories than a serialized series, and less funny than other fan-dealt series.
In each chapter, a player can focus on a character they have met or not yet encountered during their personal journey through The Lands Between. This format gives every non-player character on the page an instant and still relates to the concepts upon which the stories are set.
Characters and sound
The opening scene, centred on Roderick, is one of the strengths. In Stormhill Shack, a player presents a path that she has not encountered before and met after reaching Roundtable Hold. The scene shows how she responded and became comfortable there, as well as how other characters reacted to her and her situation.
The story revolves around Blackguard Big Boggart, who is described as a cooking expedition of the Lands Between after becoming bored with eating shellfish. He encounters and interacts with other established non-player characters from the expedition.
The book also includes "The World of Animals: The Springhare's Excursion".
