Some of the characters may not survive to the end of the show.
One Piece can kill the Imu, Blackbeard, Shanks, Law and Akainu in an unlawful rule, a failed power, tragic clashes and the ultimate struggle for truth.
Since the struggle for One Piece is inseparable from the secrets of the world, five characters also known as Emu, Blackbeard, Shanks, Law and Sakazuki say there are compelling reasons to fall before the story ends. None of these deaths have been confirmed. The series has a reputation for allowing characters to survive the impossible.
The Emu are a group of people who live in the mountains.
The Empty Throne supposedly represents a world without kings, but is occupied by the Imu and their power recognized by the Five Elders. Their eventual fall is inseparable from a larger struggle for truth and power.
Revealing the world's hidden history would threaten the secrecy that protects the Imu, and any meaningful challenge to the government's supreme authority would jeopardize their standing. The Imu could lose their right to dictate what the world knows: which ages mattered, whose authority was unquestionable.
A defeat alone doesn't require death. One Piece has allowed dictators to survive the collapse of their ambitions, and incarceration could theoretically end here as well. The Imu's demise comes from this potential denial of an inferior existence: someone who is trained to rule the world from above may not want to live in it as a vulnerable and powerless individual; attempting to maintain absolute control can become a task that makes survival impossible.
Blackbeard's tactics were likely to fail in the end.
Blackbeard, also known as Teach, flourished by taking advantage of others' faith, suffering and unfinished battles. He killed a sailor to get the Dark-Dark Fruit, captured Ace in order to gain a Warlord title, and arrived at Marineford to profit from Whitebeard's final battle. All these tactics worked for him conspicuously.
Blackbeard's group was dangerous, in part because its members had their own lofty ambitions and if Teach lost the ability to provide opportunities, her power could be dramatically diminished.
His hunger for power creates yet another avenue that can lead to disaster. Having the ability of two demonic fruits already puts him outside the boundaries governing other users, and believing he can continue to dominate could lead to an outcome beyond his control. Another attempt to seize power, escape consequences or exploit a weakened opponent may become the gamble that will ultimately bring him down.
The source's visual notes show Blackbeard smiling against a black background, his hand covered and women and Blackbeards pirates drinking.
Shanks' unfinished conflict with Blackbeard could turn into a tragedy.
Shanks has been associated with surrender since the beginning of Luffy's journey. After he loses a hand to protect a child, he is entrusted with a baby hat and the promise of future reunion. Their prospective reunion carries great psychological expectations, so the possibility that she may die before the series ends is emotionally significant.
Shanks's relationship with Blackbeard was not yet established, making the case even stronger. Much of the world recognized Teach's danger before he realized what he could become. The scars around his eyes made it impossible to ignore their history.
It will also bring together the two pirates who have shaped Luffy's life time and again. But Shanks deserves more than the death that was meant to inspire Luffy; most likely, a tragic ending will allow him to pursue what he cherishes: risking his own safety and leaving behind an achievement of survival.
In the anime material, Shanks fights Haki and Ryokugyu.
Law's Fruit creates a specific death flag.
Law has one of the clearest lethal shots in One Piece, Op-Op Fruit's Perennial Youth Operation. The operation can sacrifice a user's life and grant eternal youth to someone else. Its existence suggests an adventure uniquely defined for the series, full of dangerous qualities that there is no guarantee Law will perform.
The action may help explain the other character's history, or its point is that an attempt to use him was unsuccessful. However, Law's work and personal background make it difficult to rule out this possibility. Corazon sacrificed herself to give Law a future, saving a child who had been taught to expect death.
Law's choice to save his beloved would mean something entirely different than obeying Doflamingo's demands. Taking control of someone else's future could also echo Corazon's actions, with Law' s medical knowledge, personal history and willingness to act in tragic circumstances making him a likely candidate for the latter option.
The source showed Law's death-finger tattoos.
Akainu's Absolute Justice could keep him fighting to the very end.
Sakazuki, known as Akainu, never needed permission to use his Absolute Justice in the most subversive way. In the Ohara disaster he sank an evacuation boat so that a scholar could escape on board. At Marineford, when his fellow marines did not meet his expectations, he threatened himself.
The greatest threat to him, therefore, is more than the enemies he has accumulated. His inability to accept that his judgment may be wrong. If the final conflict forces the Navy into a confrontation with the government, this tension will leave him isolated; he no longer wants to cooperate with pirates by refusing to obey corrupt authorities.
A near-death encounter with either Luffy or Sabo is an obvious possibility, but Sakazuki's most powerful conclusion may come from his own choices -- he sees hesitation in judging others as a moral failure; and he can apply the same cruel standard to himself when faced with collapsing his own standing.
In anime footage of the source credited to Toei Animation, Akainu is shown closing his fist in One Piece episode ၁၁၂၆ after using a Magma-Magma Fruit to hit Mary Geoise with a magma punch on Kuma's face, causing her body to transform into magma while surrounded by a cloud of smoke.
Readers Should Follow Up
These five characters are not the only ones whose power is the strongest factor that can change destiny. Being powerful gives little satisfaction when people against them decide in unison: Emu and Blackbeard are tied to a hidden structure of the world, while Shanks and Law promise medical redemption; Akainu seeks an unshakable justice.
While none of these deaths can be confirmed, each one has a different narrative of their loss: who will survive the impact? A world where Luffy may find out what Sabo's navy, government and hidden ruler are hiding.
